Our Philosophy:

As many of us have become aware, there is a distinct connection between the mind, body and spirit. Even modern medicine has shown the link between psychological stress (mind) and physical health (body). This interconnection between the various aspects of the human experience is the fundamental principal behind "Integral living". The intention of this philosophy is to emphasize the fact that in order to achieve one's highest potential, one has to nourish all aspects of the mind, body, and spirit.

Currently, if one desires to live an Integral life, it is up to the individual to seek out the various practices, courses and activities. This can often result in economical, logistical and scheduling conflicts making it a complicated and laborious endeavour. It is the intention of the Community of Integral Living to consolidate and create "One-stop shopping for human development". A place that provides a wide variety of activities, courses and practices that subscribe to the Integral Living philosophy.

Our Themes:

Creativity

We feel that creative expression is an intrinsic and necessary part of personal development. To encourage this, we wish to offer workshops in as many artistic modalities as is practical. Here are some of the art forms we intend to offer:

  • Dance (e.g. Bellydance, Kundalini, Ballet, Hiphop)
  • Photography
  • Painting
  • Creative writing / Poetry
  • Drama (e.g. acting classes, Improv, plays)
  • Music classes
  • Prop Manipulation / Circus Arts (e.g. hula hooping, poi spinning, juggling)

In addition to classes and workshops we will also look to support the local artistic community by partnering with existing grassroots art initiatives. As well, the walls of the Centre will be decorated with pieces created by local artists with a special section dedicated to displaying art created by those within the centre.

Science and Technology, Social, Cultural, Environmental and Global Education

Since the advent of the internet, we have had access to an unprecedented amount of information. Although its benefits have been tremendously positive there is a potential for individuals to become overwhelmed. It is our intention, however, to help make learning fun as we look to offer talks, lectures, and courses that will peak people's curiosity and entice them to learn more about all aspects of our wonderful world and those within it.

Some of these topics are:
  • Raw food and organic living
  • Renewable energy resources (solar, wind, geothermal)
  • Local, national, and world politics
  • Seeing the World through the eyes of Art, Culture and Music
  • "101" Intro Lecture series with topics such as quantum physics, astrology, 2012 and the Mayan Calendar, and Shamanism.
  • Permaculture

To help stimulate inter-community dialogue and encourage the sharing of experience and knowledge, we would have a special program designed around supporting anyone in the community who desires to put on a talk, course or presentation.

Spirituality

Though viewed as a spiritual practice, the act of meditation has been proven to have some amazing health benefits. We believe that this practice is an amazing addition to anyone's life and we will look at offering a number of meditation techniques so that people will hopefully find one that works for them.

Child Care and Children's Programs

We believe that it is important to offer child-focused courses and programs as part of our integral philosophy. With special attention to art, we hope to provide a creative outlet that, we believe, is important to a child's growth. We want to give children the opportunity to explore their creativity in a healthy and positive environment.

Also, we will be offering a Child Care Service as it allows parents greater flexibility to participate in the Community.

Health Services

Some of the treatment modalities that we will look to offer are Reiki, massage therapy and TSM acupressure/acupuncture.
